Let’s assume for a moment that motivation is the key fuel to take action in life. We live in such times where there’s no dearth of motivational videos and we are all diving into the world of motivation from left, right, and center. Be it weight loss, positivity, earning income, learning English, building confidence, etc.
How many of us make New Year’s resolutions? Come January, then February followed by the next month and we become like deflated balloons. All our energy is blown out. Old habits die hard and we return to them as we are not committed to our goals.
Let’s be honest- how many of us have actually achieved our goals with such motivational stuff? Not many, right? Because it’s about real action. Most of us just don’t take action. But why do we not take action? Maybe due to fear of failure, or in pursuit of perfection, of gaining more knowledge, and many more reasons. As a result, over a period of time, we start living a passive life where life happens to us and we have no control. Eventually, we never grow as a person. Action gives you a sense of power to take charge of your life. So commitment is a very important fuel for action.
Let me share a lesson learned in my journey in life. When I got married, I had just completed my post-graduation. Did not know the basics of cooking(please don’t judge me). But as I wanted to be a homemaker and my husband was a foodie, I picked up every recipe book I could find and started cooking. Trust me, it was not a very smooth ride.
I still remember the first ‘upma’ I made for my man. The tempering got burnt and my upma was a disastrous lumpy pudding. I was so nervous when I had to serve it to the man of the house. As we were a newly married couple, my poor husband and I ate it silently and he told me that it was okay. That day I decided to be a decent cook. Today I can churn out dishes effortlessly and my family loves it. What made me successful? Baby steps of action with a strong emotion behind it.
Today, no one has the time to care about what you are doing. So, go ahead and do what you have to do to achieve your dreams. If you feel tired, do not hesitate to take the help of your energy boosters like motivational videos, phone a friend, positive affirmations, spiritual practices, meditation, etc.
Life Hacks to be an action taker-
- Start now, forget the perfection.
- Change your habits.
- Remember time is short. (Don’t waste it)
- Focus on the next step. (Not on the entire staircase.)
- Make your ‘Why’ really strong.
- Don’t take yourself seriously.
So I believe if there is a strong emotional “why” factor behind your goal, each one of us will take action. Even if you are 80% good, never mind, you still did it. I attended a seminar in which one of the speakers said that “Start with the tools you have, and better tools will follow”. There’s no perfect day to start. It’s Today! So good luck to you all.
